As anticipated after the removal of sugar quotas on 01 October 2018, EU sugar imports totaled 1,621,143 ttq by the end of the 2017-18 season (Oct-Sep basis), down 44% when compared to 2016-17.
Meanwhile and as projected in our EU sugar update report [August edition], shipments of "raws for refining" in the EU ended down 52% at 0.7 Mttq, essentially due to reductions of import volumes in Spain, Romania, Croatia and Italy.
