Following the removal of sugar quotas and due to favorable weather conditions which helped boost beet yields and sugar content in 2017-18, EU sugar exports surged to 3,568,908 ttq during the 2017-18 season (Oct-Sep basis), an increase of more than 157,7% when compared to the previous season.
From a geographical point of view, the main destinations for European sugar exports [2017/18 season] are Egypt, Israel, Syria, Sri Lanka and Turkey.
