By the end of May 2019, EU sugar exports totaled more than 1,426,377 ttq: down 45% from the same period a year ago. This substantial decrease was mainly driven by a drop in exports originating from Belgium (-414 kt), France (-322 kt), Poland (-100 kt) and Germany (-97 kt).
- Israel (285 kt) and Egypt (225 kt) are still the preferred destinations for European sugar while the top 10 export destinations account for 65% of the total volume exported so far,
- sugar volumes exported under IPR (165 kt over the Oct 2018 - May 2019) totaled 17 kt : its second lowest level after December 2018 this season.
