2018-19 EU sugar imports totaled 1,806,098 ttq at the end of June 2019: up 49% from the same period a year ago. This substantial increase is largely due to increased shipments from Ngwane (+147 kt), Brazil (+114 kt), South Africa (+112 kt), Mozambique (+84 kt), Cuba (+64 kt) and Serbia (+63 kt) to Romania (+156 kt), Bulgaria (+82 kt), Croatia (+74 kt), Finland (+53 kt) and Poland (+53 kt).
Additionally, the proportion of raws for refining accounts for 48% of the total volume imported (against 45% a year ago),
