At the end of August 2019, EU sugar exports accounting for the 2018-19 season totaled 1,730,498 ttq: down 49% from the same period a year ago. This sharp decrease was essentially due to a drop in exports originating from Belgium (-579 kt), France (-446 kt), Netherlands (-154 kt), Poland (-130 kt) and Germany (-117 kt).
- Israel (363 kt), Egypt (257 kt) and Norway (100 kt) remained the preferred destinations for European sugar although volumes shipped to Egypt are down 208 kt from the same time a year ago ;
- The top 10 export destinations account for 66% of the total volume exported so far (against 58% at the same time a year ago).
- the average European FOB price for exports is now equivalent to 349 EUR/t.
