After 35 days into the new season, the 2021-22 Thai cane crush is well ahead of last year. However and
as highlighted in our previous report, the cane quality and sugar content continue to be trailing behind last year.
By January 10th, a total of 25.23 Mt of cane had been crushed nationwide against 20.46 Mt a year ago after the same number of crushing days.

The 2021-22 Thai cane crush started on 7th December 2021: 3 days earlier than a year ago. Although it is still too early to determine the real potential of the season, statistical data analyzed up until 27 December suggests that the season may not be as promising as originally anticipated: cane quality and sugar content (measured as CCS) being quite low and having difficulties to improve over those first few weeks.

After a 2020/21 season marked by adverse weather conditions and historically-low cane and sugar productions, it is now time to look at 2021/22 season’s prospects. According to our latest estimates, cane production could total 91 Mt while sugar output would reach 10.2 Mt.
Meanwhile, Thai sugar exports continue to trail behind last year with only 1.85 Mt being shipped by the end of H1 2021…
